Your North Star for Growth and Resilience

Meet Dr. Leah Gause
Licensed Psychologist
Who I Am
Hi, I'm Leah and I'm honored to walk alongside you on your journey. Here's a little bit about me as a human. I am a native Minnesotan, mom of two (or more, depending on how you count), loss parent, wife, sister, daughter, friend, musician, French-speaker, and avid lover of all things related to MN summer and #lakelife. When I'm not working and mom-ing (a rare occasion!), you can catch me spending time outdoors, traveling, hanging with girlfriends, catching up on trashy TV, or just generally trying to resume any long-lost hobbies.
My Practice
I'm a licensed psychologist in the state of Minnesota (LP6027) and am a PSYPACT telehealth provider, allowing me to practice virtually nationwide. Check out the map to determine if you live in a state that is compatible with my practice. I offer services exclusively via telehealth using a platform called SimplePractice.
Education, Training & Clinical Background
I received my Bachelor's of Arts (BA), Master's of Arts (MA), and Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degrees all from the University of St. Thomas. I completed a pre-doctoral psychology internship at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Healthcare System and a postdoctoral fellowship specializing in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) & Polytrauma at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System. I worked briefly in private sector hospitals and for several years in private practice, but the majority of my career has been spent at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. I specialize in rehabilitation psychology, assisting military service members and veterans with a history of acquired and traumatic injuries such as TBI, stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, and accompanying behavioral health conditions. I have extensive training and expertise in military and Special Operations Forces (SOF) culture, treating depression. anxiety, grief/loss, and adjustment disorders, as well as providing evidence-based psychotherapies for trauma/posttraumatic stress and other health challenges. I also have proficiency in working with families and couples, as well as enjoy incorporating elements of mind-body approaches (e.g., mindfulness meditation) into my practice.

What is
Du Nord?
Like L'Etoile Du Nord (the North Star), I walk alongside you as you navigate life's challenges. I help you find direction and build resilience with evidence-based care and steady support. Although services are offered exclusively via telehealth, Dr. Gause is native to the North Star State of Minnesota, thus making the name particularly apt. Let me serve as your guiding light and join you on your journey in moving forward with clarity and strength.
Areas of Specialty

Depression
Depression can look a lot of different ways and isn't just a weakness or inability to 'power through it.' Good news - it's treatable. Let's work through it together.
Anxiety
More than just stress or worry, anxiety can make us believe things that are unhelpful and untrue. Let's battle those thoughts to help you live life free from rumination and fear.
Trauma-Related Disorders
Posttraumatic stress is not simply refusing to let go of the past, but rather a biological response in your brain and body for survival. Trauma-informed treatment can help you regain control of your life in ways you may not have even known you've lost.
Military / Veterans / SOF
Having professionally "grown up" in the VA has taught me a lot about military and veteran culture, and I've been director an interdisciplinary rehab program for active duty SOF members for many years. I can't say I've walked in your shoes, but I'm honored to walk alongside them.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) & Polytrauma
Whether you've sustained a mild TBI (concussion) or severe, I have expertise and experience in TBI rehab and can help you in your recovery journey. I also have extensive experience in navigating adjustment to disability stemming from all types of neurologic injuries and illnesses.
Grief & Loss

Navigating a loss (of any kind - I use that term broadly) is both innately human and can also be excruciating and lonely. Allow me to accompany you on the journey and to honor your loss in whatever way fits for you.
Evidence-Based Treatments
I have training and expertise in providing the following evidence-based treatments: Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Services & Rates
Du Nord Psychology is a fee for service practice and is not in network with any insurance. Fees listed below are based upon private pay rates and are subject to change should Du Nord become in-network with any insurance providers.
Clients will be financially responsible for their care at the time of service. You may be able to utilize out-of-network benefits through your insurance provider, and Du Nord Psychology can provide you with a monthly statement ("superbill") which you can then submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. If you have any questions about the reimbursement process, please contact your insurance provider.
If you are an active duty Special Operations Forces (SOF) member (and therefore utilize TRICARE benefits), there may be benevolent organizations who can assist with session fees. Ask me for more information!

Diagnostic Assessment / Intake
This serves as our initial session together during which I will spend time getting to know you, your background and history, mental health symptoms, and goals for therapy. This is also our first true opportunity (outside of an optional brief consultation) to see how we will work together. Building your trust is paramount to our relationship, so let's dive in.
Session rate: $250

Individual Therapy
Each individual psychotherapy session builds upon previous sessions, helping you work toward your goals and live your life according to your values/what matters most. Individual therapy can be fluid in nature or can follow a more specific evidence-based treatment protocol, depending on your needs and what we determine to be the best treatment approach for you. Wherever you are on your journey, we'll figure it out together.
Session rate: $200

Couples/Relational Therapy
Couples or relational therapy is as it sounds. My approach is to treat 'the relationship' as the client, rather than two (or more) individuals. Similar to individual therapy, we will work together on collective goals and shared values to determine your desired end state, whether that be increased connection, intimacy, or simply how to co-parent through divorce. Life can be messy, but we can navigate it together.
Session rate: $225
Complimentary Consultation
Du Nord Psychology also offers a complimentary 15-minute consultation call for potential clients. This gives us a chance to connect, determine what you are looking for in therapy, and assess whether we will be a good fit together. This can also be a time to ask any questions about the process and discuss any logistics before moving forward with scheduling. If you're interested in setting up a free consultation, please submit the form in the Contact Us section below.
